Oh yeah – & don’t be fooled into thinking that DAWs are intended solely for making recording live instruments or vocals. Although today, as with most DAWs, they should function across the board, be it on Mac, Windows, Linux – whatever. Also, a quick side-note: both these DAWs were originally designed for Mac the guys over at Windows were a tad late on the uptake. 2 years later & Pro Tools already had fierce competition, as German tech giant Steinberg, dropped its DAW ( Cubase) in 1993. Out of all the DAWs, it’s the undisputed OG.Īlthough, it didn’t enjoy exclusivity for long. Hence why Pro Tools is often referred to as the ‘industry standard’. Come 1991, & the majority of music studios had began to oust their analogue kit, in favour of going digital. In other words, to all those who spent racks on analogue kit in 1990 – bad luck. In fact, It was only when Pro Tools came on the scene in 1991, that the ‘DAW takeover’ really began. So ‘technically’ (in the minds of audiophiles), it wasn’t a fully fledged DAW – more like a AW. The 1st piece of music software to be considered a DAW, first came about in 1978, & went by the name of Soundstream.Īlthough despite this, Soundstream wasn’t the first snippet of software to use the editing system we know & love today. So read on & I’ll not only reveal my philosophy on best DAW for Hip Hop, but also reveal what a DAW is + w hich DAW is best for beginners? (IMO)Īfter something specific about what DAW is best? Although my personal fav has to be: “ Pro Tools is the industry staple – can’t get enough of the Elastic Pitch & the UVI Falcon Plugin ”.Ĭonfused? You don’t have to be. Or: “ the flex tool & Live Loops in Logic Pro X has drastically improved my workflow”. “ Ableton rules the roost when it comes to resampling & sound manipulation ”. Or at the very least passionate comments like… So, should you slide these 3 letters casually into conversation, be prepared for debate. Not to mention a HUGE part of modern music production. Why? Because DAWs are to producers what footbal teams are to any footy fan. In fact, it’s one that’ll have many a music producer searching for their boxing gloves, in urge to fight their corner.
